Hi Everyone,

I’ve compiled a quick list of all the “free things” that University of Auckland students have access to. I think it would’ve been more appropriate to call this post “Things that you don’t know that you’re paying for”, but I felt that was a little too long for a title.  I’ll try an update this post if I find any other things for students that I think you might be interested in.

Word, PowerPoint and Excel

While you remain enrolled at the University you can download Office 365 onto up to 5 devices. This is especially useful to save money if you have just purchased a new laptop for uni and don’t want to have to spend extra money on software.

Movies, Television and Radio

The University Library has a range of radio, television show and movies available on their website and they also subscribe to eTV, which has lots of show from both international and domestic television channels. This is a great resource if you are learning a language and want to be able to find some content to practise your listening skills. If you’re interested feel free to explore https://www.library.auckland.ac.nz/tv-radio/ or

The Maker Space

As part of the Unleash Space, the Maker Space is an area located in the Faculty of Engineering but open to all students from across the University. It contains, among other things, a laser cutter, a 3D printer and scanner, a mobile photo studio and a vacuum former. Once you’ve signed up, you can attend a training session to learn how to use any of the available equipment and from then on you can simply drop in and use it any time during opening hours. To find out more or to sign up go to

Gym Membership

If you choose to stay in a First Year Hall of Residence you are entitled to a free one year membership at the University Recreation Centre. Simply take your ID card to the gym and sign up at the reception desk.

¡Hasta luego amigos!
